El Dorado Arts Council / Yolo County Arts Council:
The El Dorado Arts Council conducts a groundbreaking ArtsBank directory program which provides artists from various disciplines opportunities to work in schools throughout El Dorado and Placer Counties. Both Barrera and the Folklorico Latino de Woodland have participated in this program since 2004. In addition, the Yolo County Arts Council has initiated a similar program based on El Dorado's ArtsBank program. Both Barrera and Gloria Rodriguez were recruited to bring their talents and experience to this new program.
Day of Respect:
Southport Elementary School - West Sacramento, CA
For the past six years, this elementary school has hosted the innovative "Day of Respect." A model program created by Dr. Cerrene Cervantes. This program brings community leaders to the elementary school. This might possibly include the West Sacramento mayor, local police, firefighters, local television personalities, artists, a Catholic priest, Buddhist monks, sports figures and more. They conduct brief 20-minute presentations to classes in all different grade levels. And for the duration of this event - the star presenter of this event has been James Barrera. He is much beloved by Southport Elementary students. His interactive presentations with the students make for a memorable chapter in these children's lives.

Bring A Cultural Experience to Your School:

Length: 30 minutes to 45-minutes
Facilities/Equipment: Auditorium. Sound System, CD capable with microphone (prefer cordless), dressing facility and 25'X25' stage area.
Fees: Range depends on number of presentations, travel and lodging expenses.
Outdoor Adventure Field Trip:
For the past two seasons, James Barrera and the Folklorico Latino de Woodland have worked with professional entertainer, Ernie Sykes, and event coordinator, Glinda Penny, on a wonderful education project entitled the Outdoor Adventure Field Trip. It is an inter-active event which has an American Indian encampment, Ernie playing Western songs and having kids run through a hay bale course, a chuck wagon, a petting zoo, a dog show and more. The event is held in May at the Placer County Fairgrounds in Roseville, CA. It is open to elementary schools throughout Placer County.
